Choosing a care facility for a parent is a decision most families make exactly once, under time pressure, often after a health scare — which is a difficult position to be evaluating something as important as safety and quality of care from. Facility tours tend to emphasise the pleasant parts: the lobby, the rooms, the amenities. The questions that actually matter are usually about things you can't see on a walk-through.
Here are the questions worth asking anywhere you're considering — including us. We've answered as we would if you asked.
"What's your nurse-to-patient ratio, and does it change at night?"
This is the single most important safety question, and a lot of facilities are vague about it. Ask specifically about night staffing, since that's when incidents are most likely to go unnoticed. Heritage Care maintains dedicated nursing staff across shifts, with the roster set to ensure coverage doesn't thin out overnight.
"How do you prevent falls, and what happens if one occurs?"
Falls are the most common serious safety incident in senior care. Ask what active prevention looks like — not just "we're careful" — and what the actual emergency response process is. Our rooms and corridors are built with fall prevention in mind (handrails throughout, wheelchair-accessible layouts), and we have an IP nurse-call system so a resident can summon help immediately from their room, not just from common areas.
"How are medications tracked, and who double-checks them?"
Medication errors are a real and under-discussed risk in care settings. Ask whether administration is logged, timed, and cross-checked, or whether it relies on memory and habit. This is a process question, not a marketing one — a facility that's thought about it will have a specific answer.
"Can I see where my parent would actually stay, not just the model room?"
It's reasonable to expect this. If a facility resists it, that's worth noting.
"What's your security like, and who has access to the building?"
Ask specifically, not generally. Heritage Care is not access-controlled by biometrics or card systems — access is managed by 24-hour on-site security staff instead, which is a different (and in our experience, more practically monitored) model than an unattended electronic gate.
"What happens in a medical emergency — do you have on-call doctor coverage, and how fast?"
This is the question families are often too polite to push on. Push on it anyway.
"Can I talk to a family with a parent currently staying there?"
A facility confident in its care shouldn't hesitate here.
We'd rather families ask us these questions directly than take our word for anything without pushing. If you want honest, specific answers about how we handle any of the above, call +91 85500 24400 — we're used to the questions, and we'd rather earn the decision than assume it.
